BJJBRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

The Smash Gyms Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program includes a systematic blend of Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo into a complete grappling system that will safely progress beginners at an accelerated pace. Our system is designed as a path for the average person to progress safely and quickly into an expert grappler. The system has proven to be highly effective in both self-defense and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu sport competition. You will find our unique Jiu-jitsu classes are presented in a format highly conducive to learning while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Smash Gym's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is taught by Michael Jen. A Third Degree Blackbelt under Joe Moreira, Michael Jen brings 20 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. One of the first 50 American Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belts, Michael has also earned his brown belt in Judo and Japanese Jujitsu. 

Michael's reputation is that of a top notch instructor. Smash Gym's BJJ curriculum was designed by Michael based on systems identified and developed through his 20 years of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While Michael was progressing through the ranks, he was fortunate enough to have the unique opportunity to train with over 11 different black belt instructors. This invaluable experience helped him to see many perspectives from every scenario and choose which techniques worked best for him. Through teaching hundreds of students over the years he formulated a system of teaching designed to help students progress quickly and safely. Through the curriculum you will be taught the techniques outlined and identified that are required to progress quickly all the way to the top levels of jiu-jitsu. The core of the techniques being taught can be applied both in gi and no-gi grappling. Our beginner friendly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are also designed to be fun, safe, and great exercise!

Kids Martial ArtsMMA

Smash Gyms MMA includes a systematic blend of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, Judo, Kickboxing into a comprehensive weekly training program that will safely progress beginners at an accelerated pace. Our classes are designed as a path for the average person to progress safely and quickly into a well-rounded martial artist and athlete. Our programs have proven to be highly effective in both Self-Defense, MMA, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu sport competition. You will find our uniquely structured classes are presented in a format highly conducive to learning while maintaining a strong focus on safety. 

With a strong focus on coordination and overall fitness our kids curriculum includes a systematic blend of Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo into a complete grappling system. Our kids class curriculum was designed by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts, Judo black belts, College Wrestlers, and self-defense experts. Our system is designed as a path for the average child to progress safely and quickly. The system has proven to be highly effective in both self-defense and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu sport competition. Kickboxing kickboxing

Are you looking for a fun workout that will increase your strength and flexibility while burning fat? Then our cardio-kickboxing is for you! It is an exiting cardiovascular workout that blends elements of boxing, martial arts and traditional aerobics into a 60-minute exercise routine. Punch away your stress! Safely hit and kick pads, mitts and shields with a partner and under the supervision of a professional trainer!

Smash Gyms Cardio kickboxing is a combination of aerobics, boxing, and martial arts. Learn proper technique for punches, kicks, knees and elbows while burning a ton of calories!

This intense, total-body workout can improve strength, aerobic fitness, flexibility, coordination, and balance. The American Council on Exercise (ACE), which evaluates exercise products and programs, notes that, during a one-hour kickboxing workout, you can burn from 500 to 800 calories, which is up to twice the calories you burn during a one-hour step-aerobics class.

Kickboxing classes can be a great alternative for people who have become bored with weight-room cardiovascular activities, such as brisk walking or jogging on a treadmill. They also provide an option for people who enjoy the "semi-dance" movements found in aerobics or step classes. Our kickboxing classes are great for both the beginner and advanced students. A beginning cardio kickboxer will have start to develop endurance, strength, and flexibility. ACE advises exercisers to keep the following things in mind when participating in this aerobic activity.

 

Krav Maga SELF DEFENSE

The Smash Gyms Self-Defense System is a unique program designed to quickly teach every student the skills and knowledge to effectively protect oneself.  This beginner friendly system will quickly allow students become proficient the intricacies of all aspects of personal protection regardless of gender, experience, size, strength, or fitness level.  

Single attacker or multiple?  Weapons or empty hands?  Standing or on the ground?  Striking or grappling?  True self-defense situations are unpredictable cannot be defined by a single scenario. 

With this in mind, the Smash Gyms Self-Defense System incorporates and combines different martial arts that have consistently proven to be the most successful in realistic conditions. 

By  tapping into the deep knowledge of multiple experts who have spent their lives specializing in specific forms and ranges of combat, students can be assured they are learning the most effect techniques and training methods that can be adapted for any situation.  In addition, students will learn to handle the stress and pressure of a sudden, violent encounter in a safe and progressive manner. 

The various classes that make up the Smash Gyms Self Defense System will not only develop a student's skills, but also help them get into great shape.  Due to the fact that each class addresses a specific and different aspect of self-defense, the workouts are fun, interesting, and challenge the body like no other.

KickboxingWRESTLING

The Smash Gyms Wrestling program includes techniques from Freestyle Wrestling, Collegiate (folkstyle) Wrestling, Greco-Roman Wrestling and Judo into a complete grappling system that will safely progress beginners at an accelerated pace.

Although our classes are very beginner friendly our system has proven to be highly effective in Freestyle Wrestling, Collegiate Wrestling, Judo and Jiu-jitsu sport competition. Our system is designed as a path for the average person to progress safely and quickly into an expert takedown artist.

The Smash Gyms wrestling program teaches techniques that can be applied to both gi and no-gi.  

 


KickboxingWOMENS SELF DEFENSE

The Smash Gyms women's Self-defense and Martial Arts program includes krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and fitness classes! Women can take beginner friendly classes six days a week! Our classes will help you build the skills and confidence to protect yourself in any self-defense situation!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is actually more important for women to know than a man in a self-defense situation! When a woman is attacked typically the attacker isn't trying to box or kickbox her. An attacker will typically grab a woman and attempt to manhandle and control her until he is in a dominant position.  

Our Jiu-jitsu program is the ideal solution for that type of situation. 

 

 

Kids Martial ArtsKids Martial Arts

The Smash Gyms Kids Martial Arts Program can and WILL help your child increase their confidence, self-esteem, discipline, while teaching them life skills that will last them a lifetime! In our program you child will be able to progress at their very own pace. We understand that everyone learns differently. Whether your child can only train once a week or everyday we have the program that will fit your needs.

"This review is for the Kids Martial Arts and Smash and Bash Bootcamp held at Smash Gyms. I was referred to Smash Gyms by a family member who trains in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class at Smash Gyms. The atmosphere in the gym is very welcoming to all. My son, who is 9 years old, took a liking to the Kids Martial Arts class on the very first day. His confidence, discipline, and knowledge of self defense has rapidly developed since enrolling in this school. He insists that he wants to continue to train daily. The instructors leading the Kids Martial Arts program do an excellent job working with the children. Parents can work out during the kids' class as well. I have taken the Smash and Bash Bootcamp while my son is training. This also is an awesome, challenging, and very convenient class for any parent wanting a great workout while their child is training. "Generally, I hate walking into gyms for the first time and having to "consult" with pushy sales people trying to get you to buy a membership at their gym before you try it out (ie. Fitness 19, Club One, 24 Hour Fitness). So it was nice to walk into Smash Gyms and not have them try to sell you on multiple types of plans. I was able to try different types of classes first using the Amazon Locals deal. After taking the kickboxing class, I was pretty much sold! The boot camp classes are also pretty awesome. I've been a member now for about a month and managed to lose 15 pounds!! Perks = no more dieting and watching my calories! As for how this compares with other kickboxing gyms, I've only tried one other kickboxing gym (Unlimited MMA in Milpitas). It was okay but I like the atmosphere here better--not as intimidating and the people are nicer. Also, this gym is closer to the freeways, makes it easier to hop on back to the 237 or 101 after working out. If you have any kids, there's a play room area and they also have martial arts classes for kids." - Mary N.

Came here for a week trial of unlimited classes! Got to try out kickboxing which was very intense since I had only tried out cardio kickboxing classes before. The instructors were all super helpful anywhere from helping newcomers with the equipment to technique tips. " - Stacey L



"This place rocks! The atmosphere is very friendly and casual, not intimidating at all. People (staff and clients) are friendly and helpful. Walk in the door and Rudy will help you out on what you need to get you started.I tried out the circuit training at noon, kickboxing, and zumba. Circuit training is great workout, small class and personal attention. Zumba is only as good as the instructor, and Raquel is energetic and fun. Kickboxing is pads and mitts, not the kick in the air stuff, good workout, and the instructors walk around to make sure people's forms are correct. Though your workout quality do depend on a decent partner.The only complain I have of this place is no shower, other than that, it's perfect. ." - Viola C.
